EGOSILICONs fulfil key functions. Ingress of moisture into the structure via the joints is prevented by EGOSILICONs. With the use of EGOSILICONs, the fitness for use of the building and the service life are decisively extended. The product displaying the highest environmental impacts was used as a representative product for calculating the Life Cycle Assessment results (worst-case approach). For the placing on the market in the European Union/European Free Trade Association (EU/EFTA) with the exception of Switzerland) products falling under the Regulation (EU) No 305/2011 (CPR) need a Declaration of Performance taking into consideration either the relevant harmonised European standard or the European Technical Assessment and the CE marking. For the application and use of the products the respective national provisions apply. <technologyDescriptionAndIncludedProcesses xml:lang="en">Silicone-based products, group 2 with a volatile organic compound (VOC) content ≤2 % (VOC definition according to the Decopaint Directive) are manufactured from reactive siloxane and so-called silicone oil, possibly using fillers, extenders, color pigments, crosslinkers, binders and catalysts. For most applications, the products are formulated as moisture-reactive one-component systems; two-component systems are also available for industrial applications. They provide a durable and elastic seal for the joints planned on the building site. Silicone-based products fulfill important functions. Joint sealants prevent moisture from penetrating the building via the joints. The use of silicone-based products significantly extends the serviceability of the building and its service life. In accordance with the model EPD system (IBU) and the guidelines and list of substances (available to members of the FEICA, EFCC, IVK and DBC trade associations), the environmental effects of the substances are summarized in a single score; the single score of a formulation is calculated from the single score of the substances. The products are divided into groups according to their single score (groups 1 to 3), with the formulation with the highest environmental impact being used as the representative product for calculating the LCA results (worst-case approach).

Silicone-based
products are used for the elastic sealing of joints. The areas of applicationfor façade sealants include expansion joints (movement joints) and/or connection joints already existing in exterior walls and on window and door frames (including the inside section). All these sealants fulfil key functions of the building.

Module 2: Sealants for glazing
Silicone-based
products are used for the elastic sealing of joints which may be subject to movement. Sealants for glazing are used in the following areas: (i)Glass to glass (ii)Glass to frame (iii)Glass to porous substrates

Module 3: Sanitary sealants
The areas of application for silicone-based sanitary sealants are joints in sanitary areas and kitchens. Joints sealed using sanitary sealants comprise connection joints between sanitary furnishings and the wall, connection joints between the floor and wall or movement joints across surfaces, for example.

Module 4: Sealants for pedestrian walkways
The areas of application for silicone-based sealants for pedestrian walkways are floor joints designed for pedestrian walkways, public areas, movement joints between concrete slabs, areas with pedestrian load, areas used with trolleys, walkable floors, balconies, terraces, warehouses.</technologicalApplicability>
<technologicalApplicability xml:lang="de">Modul 1: Fassadenabdichtungen
Silikonbasierte Produkte werden für die elastische Abdichtung von Fugen verwendet. This is a manufacturer­individualised EPD based on model declaration 'Silicone-based products, group 2' (EPD-DBC-20220180-IBF1-EN) from Deutsche Bauchemie e.V. (DBC), European Federation for Construction Chemicals (EFCC), Association of the European Adhesive and Sealant Industry (FEICA) and Industrieverband Klebstoffe e.V. (IVK) in which the product exhibiting the highest environmental impact in a particular group was selected from the group to calculate the LCA. This verified EPD entitles the holder to bear the symbol of the Institut Bauen und Umwelt e.V.. It exclusively applies to products produced in Europe and applies to a period of five years from the date of issue. This EPD may be used by members of DBC, EFCC, FEICA and IVK and their members provided. It has been proven that the respective product can be represented by this EPD.

The building
deconstruction (demolition process) takes place in the C1 module which considers
energy generation and consumption of diesel and all the emissions
connected with the fuel-burning process to run the machines. After the
demolition, the product is transported to the end-of-life processing (C2
module) where all the impacts related to the transport processes are
considered. For precautionary principle and as a worst-case scenario, thermal
treatment is the only end-of-life scenario considered. This is modelled by the incineration process (module C3) where the product ends its life cycle.



Module D
accounts for potential benefits that are beyond the defined system boundaries.
Credits are generated during the incineration of wastes and related electricity
produced that are occurring in the A5 module.</useAdviceForDataSet>

- A5 Installation, Produkt wird während der A5-Phase in das Gebäude eingebracht und Verpackungen entsorgt. Diese Phase berücksichtigt VOC-Emissionen während der Installationsphase. Die in der Formulierung enthaltenen Substanzen emittieren direkt als VOC. VOCs entstehen sogar durch eine chemische Reaktion, die während dieser Phase stattfindet.

Der End-of-Life des berücksichtigten Verpackungsmaterials ist unten beschrieben:

Der Gebäuderückbau (Abbruchprozess) erfolgt im Modul C1, das die Energieerzeugung und den Dieselverbrauch sowie alle Emissionen im Zusammenhang mit dem kraftstoffverbrennenden Prozess zum Betrieb der Maschinen berücksichtigt. Nach dem Abbruch wird das Produkt zum End-of-Life-Verarbeitung (Modul C2) transportiert, wo alle Auswirkungen im Zusammenhang mit den Transportprozessen berücksichtigt werden. Aus Vorsorgeprinzip und als Worst-Case-Szenario wird thermische Behandlung als einziges End-of-Life-Szenario berücksichtigt. Dies wird durch den Verbrennungsprozess (Modul C3) modelliert, bei dem das Produkt seinen Lebenszyklus beendet.

Modul D berücksichtigt potenzielle Vorteile, die über die definierten Systemgrenzen hinausgehen. Gutschriften (Credits) entstehen während der Verbrennung von Abfällen und der dabei erzeugten Elektrizität, die im A5-Modul entsteht.</useAdviceForDataSet>
